Odisha government begins revival process for Bijayananda cooperative sugar mill

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has initiated steps to revive the Bijayananda Cooperative sugar mill located in Balangir district, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently approving a proposal from Indian Potash Limited (IPL) to take on the revival of the long-defunct unit, reported Sambad English.

This development comes after the Chief Minister reached out to Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, seeking central support for the revival of cooperative sugar industries in the state. Moreover, the Cooperation Department of state government had made a formal request in this regard to the Managing Director of IPL, according to the news report.

According to state officials, IPL has shown interest in the initiative and outlined a set of preliminary action points based on an initial survey.

As part of the revival process, the Registrar of Cooperative Societies in Odisha has written to the Balangir Collector, directing him to assess the availability of encroachment-free land at the sugar mill site.

Additional Registrar of Cooperative Societies (Administration), Bhaktabandhu Sahoo, is scheduled to visit the site for a two-day inspection beginning June 20 to review the ground situation. The Registrar of Cooperative Societies has directed the Balangir Collector to provide the required support in identifying land owned by the sugar mill and determining its encroachment status during Sahoo’s inspection.
