Over 19,000 cans of Dr Pepper Zero Sugar recalled for containing sugar

More than 19,000 cases of Dr Pepper Zero Sugar are being recalled after it was discovered that some cans actually contain the full-sugar soda, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The voluntary recall, issued on May 23, applies to 12-ounce aluminum cans sold in both 12-pack and 24-pack cases of Dr Pepper Zero Sugar.

According to the FDA, “Product labeled to be zero sugar contains full sugar product.” The mislabeled cans contain the same sugar content as regular Dr Pepper—39 grams per can.

The affected products bear the code XXXXRS05165 and have a “best by” date of February 16, 2026.

These cans were produced by Pepsi Beverages Company in Jacksonville, Florida, and were distributed exclusively to Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

On June 5, the FDA classified the recall as Class II.

According to the FDA, this level of recall is “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,”.
