Toba Tek Singh: A case has been registered against the Shakarganj Sugar Mill owner Ali Altaf Saleem, the son of former federal minister for privatization Altaf Saleem, and general manager Finance Malik Muhammad Asif at the Jhang Satellite police station for not clearing cane dues worth more than Rs 1.3 million against the supply of the cane to the mills, reports Dawn.
The police have registered the first information report (FIR) under the Sugar Factories Control Act, 1950 following the report of Naib Tehsildar Talib Hussain.
He has been appointed as a representative of the deputy commissioner with the powers of the district additional cane commissioner.
The DC has directed him to register the case on the complaint of a farmer Ghulam Murtaza of Sahamalwala village, he said. The farmer had supplied cane to the mill during the crushing season but has not received any amount from the mill so far whereas the mill must clear dues within 15 days, he said.
