Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain on Tuesday said that sugar prices are expected to decline to Rs.110 per kilogram in the near future.
Talking to the media in Islamabad, he stated that the government intends to exit from the sugar sector. He added that the deregulation committee has already submitted its report to the prime minister.
According to the minister, deregulation would help bring stability to the sugar industry.
Pakistan has recently faced significant challenges due to persistently high sugar prices, which have added to inflationary pressures and increased the financial burden on consumers across the country. The rising cost of sugar has particularly affected household budgets and sparked public concern.
Meanwhile, reports in December showed that Sargodha had the lowest retail sugar price in the country at Rs170 per kilogram, compared to Rs175 in Gujranwala and Rs172 in Sialkot.
