Pakistan: Online portals for sugar mills to deliver stock now operational

Online portals established for sugar mills to deliver stock to markets are now operational, contributing to stabilizing supply and easing prices in both wholesale and retail markets, reported Pakistan Today.

As per the news report, dealers reported that the price of a 50-kg sugar bag has fallen to between Rs8,750 and Rs8,800. In the wholesale market, sugar is now trading at Rs175 to Rs180 per kilogram, while retail prices have decreased to Rs180–190 per kilogram, reflecting a drop of Rs5 to Rs7 per kg in recent days.

Traders attributed the decline to improved supply and the streamlined online distribution system, which has enhanced efficiency in market deliveries.

However, sugar mill owners in Sindh have highlighted ongoing challenges, noting that the portal system there remains partially inactive, causing delays and logistical issues in the province’s sugar distribution.
