In a move aimed at protecting farmers, the federal government has set November 15, 2025, as the official start date for sugarcane crushing for all mills across Pakistan.
The decision was reached during a meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board on Wednesday, which was led by Rana Tanveer Hussain, the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research.
The session included representatives from the nation’s sugar mill owners, as well as top agriculture officials from every province and other government departments.
Minister Hussain stated that the uniform start date was the result of extensive talks with provincial governments and the sugar industry. He explained the move is designed to prevent delays and ensure that sugarcane growers are paid on time.
He issued a strong warning, saying, “Any sugar mill that does not begin operations on this date will face serious consequences from the government.”
The meeting also focused on improving the working relationship between farmers and mill owners. Officials reviewed plans to ensure a smooth process and avoid any problems before the new season begins.
