The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) in Philippines has approved the importation of 424,000 metric tonnes (MT) of sugar to maintain a stable supply, even though the country currently has adequate buffer stocks and stable prices as of June.
According to Sugar Order No. 8, which outlines the guidelines for this round of imports, the SRA stated, “The objective of this sugar import program is to ensure the continued availability of sufficient sugar for domestic consumption and buffer stock purposes.”
This marks the agency’s first approved importation for the 2024-2025 crop and production year. The importation will be open to qualified international sugar traders with valid licenses and good standing.
The SRA also noted that all imported sugar must arrive in the country between July 15 and November 30 and will be classified as reserve sugar.
