Philippines: The data released by the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) suggests that the retail prices of refined sugar have increased by 24% compared to the last year’s low, reports Business Mirror.
In the domestic markets sugar is sold at P105 per kg as against P84.50 per kg, a year ago. The data also states that the prices of raw and washed sugar went up 35.94 % and 34.85%) to P87 and P89 per kg, respectively.
Riding against the tide the wholesale prices were seen down by 1.2% to P4, 100 per 50-kg bag as against P4, 150 per 50-kg last year.
As per the latest monitoring of public markets by the Department of Agriculture, the prevailing retail price of sugar was from P85 to P110 per kg for refined sugar, P82 to P90 per kg for washed sugar, and P78 to P90 for brown sugar.
SRA has announced crushing cane in August as against the demand made by farmers’ groups to start crushing from August.
