PM Surya Ghar scheme benefits over 26 lakh households as of December 2025: Minister Naik

Over 26 lakh households have benefited under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana as of December 2025, according to information submitted by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) is a demand-driven scheme under which all residential consumers with a grid-connected electricity connection from their local DISCOM can avail the benefits for installing rooftop solar (RTS) systems by applying through the scheme’s national portal.

Since the launch of the scheme in February 2024, a total of 20,85,514 RTS systems have been installed across the country, benefiting 26,14,446 households. Central Financial Assistance (CFA) amounting to Rs 14,771.82 crore has been disbursed till December 2025. The state and Union Territory-wise details of progress made under the scheme, arranged by the number of RTS systems installed, are provided in the annexure, the minister stated.

Under the PMSG: MBY, it is estimated that RTS installations in one crore households could generate 1,000 billion units of renewable electricity. This is expected to reduce 720 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions over the 25-year lifetime of the RTS systems.
