Police crack down on ethanol theft racket with links to Saharanpur and Gorakhpur

Saharanpur: The police have tightened their grip on a gang involved in stealing and illegally selling ethanol, with the network reportedly linked to Saharanpur and Gorakhpur. Investigations have revealed that the stolen ethanol was supplied in these two cities, where it was used in the production of illegal liquor and for other unauthorized purposes, reported Amar Ujala.

As part of the ongoing probe, police teams conducted raids in Saharanpur to track down the suspects. As per the media report, sources suggest that more arrests in this case are expected soon.

The racket was first uncovered by Panipat police on May 11, when four individuals were arrested near Ganda Nala on Skylark Market Road. The arrested accused included Neeraj from Rasulabad in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh; Praveen from Tehsil Camp Tej Colony; Megraj from Jaurasi Khalsa; and Somnath alias Somi from Model Town, Sonipat.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that they were purchasing ethanol and selling it to various individuals. Due to the seriousness of the case, the Superintendent of Police assigned the investigation to the CIA-3 team.

On the following Tuesday, the team arrested another accused, Sajid, who admitted to buying the stolen ethanol. He revealed that he had supplied the ethanol to Saharanpur and Gorakhpur and confirmed its use in illegal liquor production.

Based on this information, the CIA-3 team raided several locations in Saharanpur in search of additional suspects and also extended their investigation to Gorakhpur.

CIA-3 in-charge Vijay Kumar confirmed that the team had recently visited Saharanpur for further investigation. He stated that the names of several other individuals have surfaced during the probe, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
