Police lodge fraud case against sugar mill officials following cane commissioner’s orders

Haridwar: Acting on the directive of the Cane Commissioner, police have registered a fraud case against five people, including a director of the managing committee of the Iqbalpur Sugar Mill, based on a complaint filed by the secretary-in-charge of the Cooperative Cane Committee. Police have begun an investigation into the matter, reports Daily Jagran.

The Uttarakhand Kisan Morcha had been holding a dharna for 52 days outside the SDM office in Roorkee tehsil, with several demands including the clearance of crores of rupees in pending payments from the Iqbalpur Sugar Mill. On Thursday, Cane Commissioner Tilok Singh Martoliya visited the farmers’ protest site.

During the visit, the farmers had demanded action against the sugar mill management. The Cane Commissioner assured them of action, leading to the suspension of the dharna, and subsequently issued orders for the same to departmental officers.

In this matter, Shishpal Singh, Secretary-in-charge of the Cooperative Cane Committee, Iqbalpur, Roorkee, submitted a written complaint to the Jharbreda police station. The complaint stated that the Iqbalpur Sugar Mill had issued a cheque for ₹4 crore, 54 lakh, 34 thousand, and 703 to the committee on September 27th for the outstanding payment. Later, on October 16th, a cheque for ₹5 crore was issued. However, despite this, the cheques from the Iqbalpur Sugar Mill could not be cashed.

The committee has accused the Iqbalpur Sugar Mill of fraud and demanded action.

Jharbreda Station House Officer, Ajay Shah, stated that based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Shreya Sahni, a director of the sugar mill’s managing committee, Unit Head Anil Tanwar, Accounts Officer Janardan Dhyani, Director Brijesh Kumar, and Shivkumar Sisodiya.
