The government has appointed Dr. Sanjay Kolte as the new Sugar Commissioner of the state on Tuesday. Just two months ago, Dr. Kolte was appointed as the Managing Director of the Shivshahi Punarvasan Prakalp Ltd (SRPL). Last month, the previous Sugar Commissioner, Siddharam Salimath, was transferred to the position of Additional Divisional Commissioner for the Konkan region. In the interim, the additional charge of the Sugar Commissioner was given to Cooperation Commissioner Deepak Taware.
Dr. Kolte holds a Master’s degree in Veterinary Science from the Bombay Veterinary College in Mumbai. An officer of the 2010 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Dr. Kolte has held several significant positions prior to his appointment as the Sugar Commissioner. His experience includes:

The Sugar Commissioner’s office is currently busy preparing for the sugarcane crushing season for 2025-26. A meeting of the ministerial committee, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has decided that the crushing season will commence on November 1, 2025.
