Season 2025-26: Sugar production in Maharashtra reaches 760.36 lakh quintals

Sugarcane crushing for Maharashtra’s 2025–26 season is in its final phase with operations gearing up steadily picking up across the state. As per the latest figures released by the Sugar Commissionerate, 199 sugar mills commenced crushing as of January 29, 2026.

These mills have so far crushed 826.47 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane, yielding 760.36 lakh quintals of sugar. The average sugar recovery rate currently stands at 9.2%.

Among the 199 operational mills, 98 are part of the cooperative sector, while 101 are privately owned. The Kolhapur division continues to lead in both sugar output and recovery rates.

Kolhapur: All 37 mills in the division are operational, crushing 178.7 LMT of cane and achieving the state’s highest recovery rate of 10.79%, producing 192.73 lakh quintals of sugar.

Pune: The Pune division has 30 mills in operation, which have crushed 187 LMT of cane at a recovery rate of 9.48%, resulting in 177.3 lakh quintals of sugar.

Solapur: With the largest number of active mills at 47, Solapur has crushed 177.97 LMT of cane, recording a recovery rate of 8.31%.

By the same date in the previous season, 199 mills had begun operations, crushing 616.2 LMT of cane with an average recovery rate of 9.03%.
