Benchmark equities closed in the green on December 05 as markets digested the Reserve Bank of India’s 25-basis-point repo rate cut and fresh liquidity measures.
Sensex ended 447.05 points higher at 85,712.37, whereas Nifty concluded 152.70 points up at 26,186.45.
SBI jumped 2.53 per cent, followed by Bajaj Finserv at 2.08 per cent and Maruti at 1.8 per cent. Other notable gainers included Bajaj Finance, HCL Technologies, Larsen & Toubro, M&M, and Infosys. Banks like Kotak Mahindra, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank also contributed to the upside.
On the other hand, some stocks ended lower, including Hindustan Unilever, Eternal, Trent, Sun Pharma, and TMPV. Mid-cap and sectoral players like Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel, PowerGrid, TCS, Adani Ports , and Axis Bank added modest gains.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 158.51 points higher at 85,265.32, whereas Nifty concluded 47.75 points up at 26,033.75.
