Shivraj Singh Chouhan launches the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today inaugurated the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ from Sakhigopal in Puri district, Odisha. This landmark campaign, initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), aims to revolutionize Indian agriculture through scientific advancements and grassroots engagement to ensure food security for the nation.

As part of the 15-day campaign, Shri Chouhan will visit around 20 states. The active involvement of state governments is seen as vital to the success of the mission, with a strong emphasis on collective responsibility and commitment.

In his address, the Union Minister emphasized that the campaign would follow a two-way communication model. Scientists will not only share technical knowledge and research findings with farmers but also gather insights into the real-world challenges they face. These interactions are expected to shape future research and provide customized, location-specific solutions. To bridge the gap between research institutions and the farming community, ICAR scientists and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) will be directly involved.

Shri Chouhan announced the formation of 16,000 scientist teams who will visit villages and engage directly with farmers. A total of 2,170 teams have been constituted, with each team expected to visit two villages per day. Over the 15-day campaign, these teams will provide guidance tailored to regional conditions—covering climate, soil health, water resources, crop selection, seed varieties, and appropriate fertilizer use. The campaign will also focus on promoting natural farming practices and increasing the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds. Through direct dialogue, scientists will address farmers’ practical problems and align future research with field requirements.

He called on all citizens to actively participate in the campaign to ensure its nationwide success.

Speaking at the event, Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi described the initiative as a pioneering effort by the central government to educate farmers about modern agricultural techniques and innovative seed varieties.

The campaign will be conducted across more than 700 districts between May 29 and June 12, 2025. In total, 731 KVKs, 113 ICAR institutes, and state-level departments of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries, along with progressive farmers, will take part. This effort marks a significant step toward realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).
