The Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development has dismissed recent media reports claiming that the Sevanagala Sugar Factory is facing closure.
In an official statement, the Ministry clarified that neither company nor the current government has proposed any plans to shut down the factory. It also addressed inaccuracies in the reports regarding sugarcane harvest figures, confirming that the factory continues to purchase the current yield as usual.
Additionally, the statement highlighted that while the factory experienced financial losses under the previous administration, it is now operating under a new business plan designed to restore profitability and ensure long-term sustainability.
