Coimbatore: Sugarcane crushing activities begin at the Subramania Siva cooperative sugar mill after the minister for agriculture M R K Paneerselvem launched the operation.
The mill aims to crush 2.4 lakh tonne of cane grown over 7,215 acres, said officials. The farmers would get Rs 2929 per tonne for this season.
As per news report published in Thehindu.com, according to officials, over rupees two crore has been transferred as incentive to the bank accounts of 1,538 member farmers who supplied cane to the mill.
The mill has aimed to crush 4.3 lakh tonne cane grown over 14,000 acres next season.
