Sugar recovery improves as India crushes over 2,400 LMT cane this season

New Delhi: India’s average sugar recovery rate has improved to 9.31 per cent during the ongoing 2025–26 season, compared with 9.09 per cent recorded during the same period last year, as per the NFCSF data released on February 14.

The improvement comes as sugar mills across the country have crushed 2,419.59 LMT of cane, reflecting both higher cane availability and improved processing efficiency.

Among major producing states, Telangana recorded one of the highest recovery rates at 10.40 per cent, followed by Gujarat at 10.40 per cent and Uttar Pradesh at 9.90 per cent. Maharashtra’s recovery stood at 9.35 per cent, slightly higher than last season.

Officials said improved recovery, along with early crushing and higher participation by mills, has supported the rise in sugar production this season, even as some mills begin closing operations.

With 454 mills still operational, output is expected to increase further before the crushing season concludes.
