Pune: The Sharad Joshi Vichar Manch farmer organization has demanded that the government take action against sugar mills that fail to pay FRP to farmers on time, Pudhari reported.
Vithal Pawar, president of the organization, said the demands include providing a legally guaranteed price for all farm produce, from coriander to sugarcane, and taking strict action against buyers who purchase below the minimum support price (MSP). He also called for amendments to stop exploitation in market committees, the creation of a separate judicial commission to prevent farmer suicides, and immediate criminal action against sugar mills that do not pay farmers’ FRP within 14 days, along with license suspension.
The demands were submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Food Minister Prahlad Joshi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane, and Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil.
Pawar highlighted issues in market committees such as unauthorized deductions, brokerage fees, and manipulation of weights, and demanded that all transactions be digital and transparent. He emphasized that the government must take concrete action within a month, warning that failure to act could lead to a nationwide farmers’ movement.
