Tiruchi: Sugarcane farmers associated with the Thirumangudi Thiru Arooran Sugar Factory marked the 690th day of their indefinite protest on Sunday, calling for Chief Minister M.K. StalinтАЩs intervention into the disbursal of pending dues of Rs 157 crore. The factory has failed to settle these dues, leading to the prolonged protest.
The farmers allege that the Thiru Arooran Sugar Factory took a loan of Rs 115 crore in their names without their knowledge. They are urging the government to take control of the factory to protect their interests.
Tamil Nadu Sugarcane Farmers AssociationтАЩs State General Secretary, T. Ravindran, expressed frustration over the state government and district administrationтАЩs inaction. тАЬWe have been protesting for 690 days outside the factory, but no steps have been taken to resolve the issue. Our protests will continue until our demands are met,тАЭ Ravindran said.
The farmers began their indefinite protest demanding full payment of their dues, but no government officials have met them so far. тАЬWe call on Chief Minister Stalin to intervene and resolve our problems immediately,тАЭ Ravindran urged.
He blamed mismanagement at the factory for causing significant losses to farmers who rely on it for their livelihood. Ravindran warned that the governmentтАЩs continued inaction could lead to further unrest among the farming community.
