Tejashwi, Congress slam PM Modi over sugar mill promise during Bihar visit

Motihari: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Friday, accusing its leaders of grabbing land in exchange for job promises and claiming the party could never generate employment, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav hit back sharply, reports Indian Express.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the Leader of Opposition and former Deputy Chief Minister said, “Prime Minister, as per your promise, you have not been able to reopen even a single sugar mill in Bihar. There is no point in expecting anything when it comes to other industries. The Prime Minister has shifted everything to Gujarat and visits Bihar only with empty slogans.”

The exchange came after Modi’s address at a rally in Motihari, East Champaran, where he attacked the RJD over alleged land-for-job scandals.

Congress also responded to the Prime Minister’s comments. Party spokesperson Gyan Ranjan Gupta said, “He promised Kashi (Varanasi) would become Kyoto. Where is that? In Bihar, there are on average 229 murders each month. Paper leaks are routine. The PM who couldn’t restart a single sugar mill now talks of making Motihari like Mumbai. The biggest promise is always a ‘jumla (empty slogan)’.”

Earlier in the day, workers from Congress and the RJD staged a protest in Motihari, accusing the Prime Minister of failing to deliver on his 2014 campaign promise to revive the Motihari and Chanpatia sugar mills.

As part of their protest, Opposition workers set up a stall at Gandhi Chowk in Motihari, serving “feeki chai” (sugarless tea) — a symbolic jab at the unfulfilled sugar mill revival pledge.
