Belgavi: Two women labourers died on the spot after the dumper section of a sugarcane harvesting machine allegedly ran them over due to the negligence of the driver at Satti village in the taluk on Wednesday, reports Deccan Herald.
The deceased were identified as Bouravva Laxman Kobadi (60) and Laxmibai Mallappa Rudragoudar (65), both residents of Satti.
According to the police, the incident took place while the women were engaged in their regular work in the field. They reportedly failed to notice the harvester’s dumper as it moved backwards. The machine struck them, causing severe head injuries that led to their death on the spot.
The women were working as daily wage labourers to support their families. The Athani police have registered a case in connection with the incident and have begun an investigation.
