UP Sugar Mills Association, Lucknow and Greentech Consultants, Kanpur are jointly organizing an international Conference on a very important topic “Business Models for Mitigating Challenges before Sugar Industry” on 14th May 2025 at Lucknow. The conference is likely to be attended by large number of delegates from various sugar producing states of the country and also from other sugar producing countries viz. Thailand, Nepal, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Smt. Veena Kumari, Principal Secretary (Sugar) and Shri Pramod Kumar Upadhyaya, Cane Commissioner, Government of Uttar Pradesh shall also grace the inaugural function.
As the sugarcane production has lowered, during the current year, while, Uttar Pradesh is expected to produce about 93 lakh metric tons of sugar as against last year production of around 105 lakh metric tons, Maharashtra and Karnataka are likely to produce 80.70 and 42.00 lakh metric tons of sugar as against last year production of 110.20 and 53.00 lakh metric tons respectively. Thus, discussions on sugarcane productivity enhancement through development of newer varieties, precision farming, mechanization and use of artificial intelligence and machine learning shall remain high on agenda said Prof. Narendra Mohan, Ex-Director, National Sugar Institute and Chief Organizer of the conference.
Eminent experts shall also discuss multiple issues related to domestic & global sugar balance, , domestic ethanol balance sheet, efforts required to cope up with the requirement of ethanol blending looking to the measurable shortfall in sugarcane production during the current year 2024-25 possible diversion of sugar for producing ethanol during the next crushing season. The conference shall also discuss about probable innovative environment friendly processes of superior quality sugar production, production of sugar of different qualities as per requirement of different sectors and harmonizing Indian sugar standards with International standards.
The conference shall also have important sessions on deliberating few cutting edge technologies which are likely to revolutionize processing in sugar factories and also producing value added products from by-products and waste of the sugar industry. The highlight of the session would be a presentation from Dr. Prakit Sukyai of Kasetsart University, Thailand on “Upcycling Sugar Refinery Waste for Bone Tissue Engineering”. In addition to it, some cutting edge technologies for recovering “Corn Oil” and producing “1.5G ethanol” shall also be discussed during the conference.
Shri Sameer Sinha, President, UP Sugar Mills Association, besides presenting various contours of ethanol production including 2G ethanol, shall also discuss about technologies and economics of some future fuels viz. sustainable aviation fuels and green hydrogen.
