In June, U.S. ethanol exports reached 173.7 million gallons, marking a 6% decline from May amid market fluctuations, but still 30% higher compared to the same month last year. Canada continued to lead as the top destination, with shipments rising 6% to a six-month high of 64.9 million gallons. Exports to India surged by 158% to 24.2 million gallons (Compare to May), the highest volume in five months, according to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service data.
Although India’s EBP program prohibits the use of imported ethanol to meet blend targets, India uses imported ethanol for industrial purposes.
The European Union received 20.3 million gallons, largely driven by the Netherlands, though this represented a one-third drop from May. An additional ten markets accounted for the remaining exports in June, with notable volumes going to South Korea (12.6 million gallons, up 16%), the Philippines (12.0 million gallons, up 5%), the United Kingdom (11.0 million gallons, down 64%), and Colombia (10.8 million gallons, down 17%). Brazil remained absent as a destination for the second straight month.
Cumulatively, U.S. ethanol exports during the first half of 2025 totaled 1.06 billion gallons, a 13% increase over the same period in 2024.
The U.S. imported just 21,696 gallons of undenatured fuel ethanol from Canada in June, bringing total imports for the year so far to 3.4 million gallons.
U.S. exports of dried distillers grains (DDGS)—a co-product of ethanol production used in animal feed, slightly declined in June to 917,307 metric tons, reflecting varied demand across key markets. Exports to Mexico, the largest buyer, fell 11% to 184,379 metric tons. In contrast, South Korea boosted its imports by 18% to 112,890 metric tons.
Vietnam’s imports dipped by 1% to 87,729 metric tons, while Colombia saw a significant increase of 167% to 80,015 metric tons. Shipments to Indonesia fell 19% to 73,298 metric tons, whereas Canada raised its purchases by 11% to 50,726 metric tons. Turkey imported 50,630 metric tons, a 10% drop from May, and the EU reduced imports by 33% to 47,206 metric tons.
Together, these eight countries made up 75% of total U.S. DDGS exports in June. Among other key markets, Morocco expanded its imports by 174% to 31,740 metric tons, and Taiwan saw a 55% increase to 30,604 metric tons, its highest level in eight years.
For the first half of 2025, total U.S. DDGS exports amounted to 5.42 million metric tons, representing an 8% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
