US ethanol production falls nearly 2% as stocks rise and exports jump 54%

Fuel ethanol production in the United States declined slightly in the week ending February 27, even as inventories rose and exports recorded a sharp increase, according to data released on March 4 by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Ethanol Producer Magazine reported.

Average production stood at 1.095 million barrels per day during the week, a decrease of 18,000 barrels per day from the previous weekтАЩs level of 1.113 million barrels per day. However, production was marginally higher than the same week last year, rising by 2,000 barrels per day.

Ethanol stocks increased to 26.337 million barrels for the week ending February 27. This was up by 691,000 barrels compared to the previous weekтАЩs total of 25.646 million barrels. Despite the weekly rise, inventories were 952,000 barrels lower than the same period a year earlier.

Exports saw significant growth, reaching 217,000 barrels per day. This marked an increase of 76,000 barrels per day from the prior weekтАЩs 141,000 barrels per day. Compared with the same week last year, exports were up by 94,000 barrels per day.

No ethanol imports were reported during the week ending February 27.
