More than 12,000 packages of frosted sugar cookies sold at Target are being recalled due to possible contamination with wood, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced, reports People.
The recall affects 10-count packages of Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies, which were pulled from shelves starting July 22. The FDA officially classified the recall as Class II on Monday, August 4. This category is used when a product might cause temporary or medically reversible health issues, though the risk of serious harm is considered low.
The affected cookies carry UPC code 85239-41250 and lot number 25195. No best-by date is listed for the recalled items.
The recalled batches were shipped from distribution centers in Connecticut, Maryland, and Ohio, reaching stores across a wide swath of the eastern and midwestern U.S. including Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.
The FDA has not reported any injuries or illnesses linked to the contaminated cookies and has not revealed how wood may have entered the product.
In a separate incident, Bunge, a Missouri-based company, announced on July 14 the voluntary recall of 64,800 pounds of its European Style Butter Blend due to undeclared milk not listed on the label. That recall was also elevated to Class II on July 30.
