Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh: The sugar mills in the district are expected to commence their crushing season in the first week of November. The Barkatpur sugar mill is anticipated to start operations by the last week of October. Farmers, who are already facing fodder shortages, are eagerly waiting for the mills to begin on time, reports Live Hindustan.
Recent floods and heavy rains have damaged fodder crops in the region. Floods ruined the fodder in the fields, while excessive rainfall prevented crops from growing as expected, gradually creating a fodder shortage for farmers. This year, farmers are hoping that the sugar mills start their crushing season promptly to alleviate the crisis.
While the Barkatpur Sugar Mill is expected to start by late October, the other nine sugar mills in the district are scheduled to begin operations in the first week of November. Repair work at the mills is progressing rapidly. Officials are making every effort to ensure the crushing season starts on schedule. If the mills operate on time, farmers will not face problems related to fodder shortages.
“Barkatpur Sugar Mill is expected to start in the last week of October, while the other mills will begin in the first week of November. Efforts are being made to ensure all sugar mills commence the crushing season on time,” said Prabhu Narayan Singh, District Sugarcane Officer, Bijnor.
