Uttar Pradesh: Cases filed against officials of two sugar mills over pending cane dues

Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: Cases have been registered at various police stations against seven officials from two sugar mills for failing to clear farmers’ dues amounting to Rs. 224.70 crore.

The mills, located in Baheri and Nawabganj, together owe Rs. 224.70 crore in sugarcane payments. The action was taken after the Cane Commissioner issued recovery certificates, according to a report by Amar Ujala.

In Baheri, the complaint was filed by Rajeev Seth, Secretary-in-Charge of the Cooperative Sugarcane Development Committee. The mill has outstanding dues of Rs. 166.60 crore for the 2024–25 crushing season. Despite repeated reminders from the District Magistrate (DM), the payment was not made.

In Nawabganj, Medha Joshi, Secretary of the Cooperative Cane Development Committee, lodged an FIR against the officials of the sugar mill. The mill has not paid Rs. 18.64 crore from the 2023–24 season and still owes Rs. 39.45 crore for the 2024–25 season, bringing the total to Rs. 58.09 crore. A recovery certificate has also been issued against this mill.
