Uttar Pradesh: Demand to increase sugarcane price to Rs. 450 per Quintal

Pradeep Tyagi, Mandal Vice President of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait faction), has sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding that the government announce a sugarcane price of Rs. 450 per quintal for the upcoming crushing season.

Tyagi stated that, considering the continuous rise in inflation, the sugarcane price should be revised before the start of the season. He pointed out that the cost of cultivation has increased sharply due to higher prices of fertilizers, pesticides, seeds, labour, and diesel, while sugarcane production has been declining.

“The rising input costs and low price are causing losses to farmers,” Tyagi said. He also noted that the neighbouring state of Haryana has already announced a sugarcane price of Rs. 400 per quintal ahead of its crushing season. He urged the Uttar Pradesh government to take similar steps to protect the interests of local farmers and ensure they are not left behind.
