Uttar Pradesh: Ethorka to set up Rs 150 crore grain-based ethanol plant in Varanasi; production to begin mid-2026

In a significant push towards sustainable fuel production and rural economic development, Ethorka Private Limited will establish a zero liquid discharge, anhydrous grain-based ethanol distillery in the Sewapuri block of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The project, with an estimated investment of Rs 150 crore, is set to commence operations by mid-2026.

The upcoming plant will have an installed capacity of 120 Kilo Litres Per Day (KLPD) and is part of India’s broader Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP), which aims to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and enhance energy security. The foundation stone was laid under the Ground Breaking Ceremony (GBC) 4.0 of Invest UP, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19th February 2024, in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Ethorka’s ethanol plant will not only contribute to India’s growing ethanol production capacity, which has been rapidly expanding in line with national targets, but also promises local socio-economic benefits. These include substantial employment generation, increased procurement of agricultural produce from local farmers, and environmentally responsible operations through zero liquid discharge technology.

According to the Pragya Singh, Founder and Managing Director of Ethorka Private Limited, “This plant is going to benefit the entire region by generating employment, strengthening rural incomes, and contributing to India’s green energy goals. We are committed to ensuring that this facility becomes a benchmark in sustainable ethanol production.”

The project is currently in the documentation and regulatory clearance phase. Company representatives recently met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow to brief him on the progress and discuss state-level support for the project.
