Bareilly: Farmers in the Baheri area of Bareilly are facing financial difficulties as the Kesar sugar mill owes dues worth Rs 125 crore for a long time. Farmers say the delay in clearing the dues has pushed many of them into a serious financial crisis, Bhaskar reported.
Farmers have repeatedly demanded payment and have also held protests, but they say they have received only assurances and fresh dates from the authorities.
The issue was raised on Friday when Chaudhary Nalin Singh, national president of the Yuva Satta Party, met Vishwesh Kanojia, Additional Cane Commissioner (Purchase), in Lucknow. During the meeting, they discussed the pending payments to farmers and the current situation of the sugar mill.
Kanojia said the government is serious about ensuring that farmers receive their dues at the earliest. He also informed that the process to sell the sugar mill is underway and efforts are being made to reach a solution between the mill owner and the concerned parties.
As a possible solution, he said farmers’ dues could be paid in instalments of ₹50 crore each. The plan aims to provide immediate financial relief to farmers while also allowing the mill’s operations to continue smoothly.
Farmers said their main demand is the full payment of their pending dues. They expressed hope that the government and officials will complete the payment process soon.
Chaudhary Nalin Singh said the Additional Cane Commissioner has assured that the payment to farmers will be arranged soon, raising hopes of relief for those waiting for their dues.
