Rampur Maniharan: Chaudhary Dharmendra Malik, the national spokesperson of the non-political faction of the BKU, has demanded that the government should fix the price of sugarcane to Rs 450 per quintal, reports Amar Ujala.
Malik was addressing a meeting of farmers at the residence of the state vice-president, Chaudhary Jagpal Singh, in the Shivpuri colony of the town. He said that if the government wants to sell food items at low prices, then it should provide subsidies to farmers. He also emphasized that farmers should receive the full value for their crops.
He also stated that the yield of Basmati rice has decreased due to crop disease. He demanded that the government should give farmers a bonus of one thousand rupees per quintal on the purchase of Basmati paddy.
He mentioned that due to the disease, the Basmati paddy yield has been reduced by fifty percent. He also questioned how farmers are expected to celebrate the Diwali festival when they have not yet received payment for their sugarcane. It was announced that after Diwali, a farmers’ council will be organized at the Collectorate to address the issues of the farmers.
The meeting was attended by Mandal President Sher Pal Rana, District Vice-President Pravesh Chaudhary, Rampur Block President Raju Chaudhary, Nanota Block President Sumit Chaudhary, Thakur Kushalvir, Kulbir Singh, Chandrapal, Satish Chaudhary, Johnny, and others.
