Uttar Pradesh: Farmers demand increase in sugar mill crushing capacity

Hasanpur, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers expressed strong resentment over the failure to increase the crushing capacity of the Kala Khera sugar mill at a panchayat organised by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Asli) on Friday at the local Mandi Samiti, reported Live Hindustan.

Speaking at the gathering, BKU Asli’s tehsil president, Samarpal Singh, said that despite a promise made by the Chief Minister seven years ago, no action has been taken so far to enhance the mill’s capacity. He demanded that the upgrade be implemented without further delay.

Singh also accused officials and employees of the electricity department of harassing farmers by inflating electricity bills. He alleged that meter readers were deliberately manipulating readings and that farmers were being targeted under the guise of inspections.

Another speaker, Mohammad Abrar, raised concerns about growing fear in the region due to leopard sightings. Referring to the recent case of a leopard’s death in the Amroha area, he criticized the filing of cases against farmers, calling the action unjust. He demanded immediate withdrawal of the case.
