Uttar Pradesh: Farmers in Bahraich villages report high yields from new sugarcane variety

Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers in the Chahlar and Usra villages of the Parsohar Jarwal block have reported significant success with the sugarcane variety 13235, which they planted last year. This particular variety yielded up to 100 quintals per bigha, reports Dainik Bhaskar.

Ramsevak Yadav from Chahlar village and Guru Prasad from Usra village explained that the optimal planting period for this variety is from February to March. They emphasized the importance of thorough field preparation between January 20th and February, which includes plowing twice with a turn plow, twice with a rotavator, and twice with a cultivator.

Regarding crop management, they stated that two rounds of weeding after full germination are essential. Timely irrigation is also necessary. Furthermore, the sugarcane needs to be tied twice, in July and August, to prevent it from falling over, as lodging can lead to a decrease in yield.

Farmers Guru Prasad, Ram Tej, Ramsevak, and Vinod Kumar reported substantial profits from this variety. This year, they achieved yields of up to 110 quintals per bigha.

According to C.P. Singh, the sugarcane officer at Jarwal Sugar Mill, this variety also has a higher sugar content. This benefits both the farmers and the mill administration.
