Uttar Pradesh: Record cane price payment of more than Rs 1 lakh crores paid between 2017-2020 to sugarcane farmers

Lucknow: Under the efficient leadership of Hon’able Chief Minister, of the State Yogi Adityanath, and under the guidance of Hon’ble Minister of Sugar Industry and Cane Development, Shri Suresh Rana, keeping the payment of sugarcane farmers on priority, so far Cane farmers have been paid a record cane price of more than Rs.1,00,000 crore, during 2017-2020 period.

Giving this information, Hon’ble Chief Minister told today, in a brief programme organized at the Chief Minister’s residence at 5-Kalidas Marg, that due to the tireless efforts made in the interest of cane farmers, a record cane price payment of more than Rs.1,00,000 crore was possible between 2017-2020. This payment is Rs.46,633 crore more than the combined cane price payment of Rs.53,367 crore of the previous 3 years of 2014-17. He also told that this cane price payment during 2017-20 is Rs.4,785 crore more than the cumulative cane price payment of Rs.95,215 crore paid during 2012-17 period. It is also noteworthy that the outstanding cane price payment of Rs. 4,466 crore of the year 2012-2017 period was also paid during 2017-2020, to the farmers of the state.

Hon’ble Chief Minister said that the State Government is committed to protect the economic interests of cane farmers. Even during corona pandemic when all the industries were facing closure, the Sugar Mills of the State continued crushing operations. It was the commitment of Government for safe guarding the interest of farmers, that the supply of their sugar cane remains uninterrupted during lockdown period. Though the sugar sale remained negligible during lockdown but in spite of that, cane price payment of Rs.5,953 crore was made to farmers in this period. In the current crushing season 2019-20, the Sugar Mills of the State crushed 1,116 lakh tons of sugarcane and produced 126.5 lakh tons of sugar. The above crushing and sugar production is recorded highest in the history of State.

Hon’ble Cane Minister Shri Suresh Rana said in his- address that ensuring cane price payments to farmers is the top priority of the Government. The State Government is determined to promote the economic interest and the all around development of sugar cane farmers.

Shri Bhoosreddy informed that during this programme Hon’ble Chief Minister interacted with sugarcane farmers of different districts of the State through video conferencing. Feedback was taken regarding cane price payment and other issues related to sugarcane. Hon’ble Chief Minister talked, to Shri Arvind Malik cane farmer of district Muzaffarnagar, Shri Vinod Saini of Meerut, Shri Sudhir Tyagi of Sambhal, Shri Hariom Gangwar of Pilibheet, Shri Palvindar Singh of Lakhimpur Kheeri, Shri Avnendar Verma of Akbarpur, Shri Anil chanda Panday of Gonda, Shri Ramsurat Mourya of Gorakhpur and Shri Devendar Rai of Kushinagar, through video conferencing. The cane farmers thanked the State Government to run the Sugar Mills and making cane price payment even during the lockdown period. They said that they did not have to face any problem in cane supply throughout the season including the lockdown period.

In this programme Hon’ble Minister Sugar Industry and Cane Development Shri Suresh Rana, Hon’ble State Minister Shri Suresh Pasi and Chief Secretary, Shri R.K. Tiwari, Additional Chief Secretaries, Shri Avnish Awasthi, Shri S.P.Goyal, Shri Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy along with senior officers of the department were present. During the programme, instructions issued by the Department of Health and State Government regarding social and physical distancing in respect of covid-19 were also followed
