Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has so far procured 9.26 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from more than 1.73 lakh farmers through 5,852 purchase centres across the state. This marks a significant increase from the 6.88 lakh metric tonnes collected during the same period last year, reports The Times of India.
According to a government spokesperson, the procurement drive has directly benefited 173,381 farmers, with over ₹2,045 crore already transferred to their bank accounts. A total of 446,725 farmers had registered for this season’s procurement.
For the 2025–26 Rabi season, the minimum support price for wheat has been set at ₹2,425 per quintal, ensuring farmers receive fair and timely payments.
The wheat procurement campaign began on March 17 and will continue until June 15. The spokesperson credited the smooth functioning of the initiative to real-time tracking systems and improved transparency and accountability through digital tools, which have been implemented across all regions.
The state government is working to raise daily procurement volumes to ensure that no eligible farmer is left behind.
“With the procurement season still underway, Uttar Pradesh is not only aiming to break previous records but also to strengthen its role as a leader in agricultural procurement, public distribution, and rural economic growth,” the spokesperson said.
