Uttar Pradesh: Seven sugar mills fined for irregularities at cane purchase centres

Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh): Irregularities were found at sugarcane purchase centres operated by seven sugar mills in the district during inspections by the Assistant cane commissioner, following which the District Magistrate imposed fines totalling Rs 1.63 lakh. The licences of two weighment clerks were also suspended, reported Amar Ujala.

Assistant cane Commissioner Brajesh Kumar said that 410 inspections have been carried out in the district so far this season, during which 16 cases of irregularities were detected. He said show-cause notices have been issued to the concerned sugar mill officials and weighment clerks wherever violations were found.

Penalties were imposed after inspections revealed shortcomings such as incomplete records at purchase centres, absence of sugarcane purchase registers and other related lapses.

The Assistant cane commissioner said directions have been issued to all sugar mills, warning that criminal cases will be registered against mills if under-weighing of sugarcane is found during inspections.
