Maharajganj: The Sugarcane department in Gadaura on Wednesday launched a spring sugarcane sowing awareness campaign to guide farmers on better cultivation practices ahead of the new season, reported Bhaskar.
The campaign began with an awareness rally that was flagged off by senior cane development inspector Dr. Tej Pratap Singh. The rally passed through villages including Itahiya, Dhamour-Matra, Regahiya, Sheetalapur, Kishanpur, Laxmipur Khurd, Lalpur, Jhulnipur and Bahuar, where officials interacted with sugarcane growers and shared information on improved farming methods.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Singh said the department’s staff had been briefed on key aspects such as protecting cane seed, selecting improved varieties and adopting mechanised methods for spring sowing. He said farmers were also informed about ways to reduce labour costs and manage common diseases affecting the crop.
He advised growers not to plant CoSa 0238 and other rejected varieties, and highlighted the benefits of intercropping to enhance farm income.
Several farmers, including Umashankar Pal, Dayashankar, Ram Prasad, Gomal Yadav, Chhatradhari Yadav and Ramashray Patel, participated in the programme.
