Lucknow: In a strategic move to attract greater investment in the excise sector, the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department, in collaboration with Invest UP, the state’s investment promotion agency, will host an Excise Investors’ Summit on July 9.
The summit aims to foster innovation, partnerships, and new business opportunities in the broader alcohol and spirits ecosystem. Excise Commissioner Adarsh Singh stated that following the UP Global Investors Summit, the state recorded investment commitments worth around Rs. 10,000 crore, either already grounded or underway. “The 2025 Excise Investors’ Summit is designed to build on that momentum and scale it further,” he said.
Singh emphasized that the excise sector extends far beyond liquor, encompassing ethanol production, molasses management, and industrial alcohol. He noted that Uttar Pradesh is the top contributor to the central government’s Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP), accounting for nearly 20% of India’s power alcohol production. “Our goal is to evolve from a consumption-driven state to a major domestic and international exporter,” he added.
The summit will bring together manufacturers, equipment suppliers, MSMEs, and industry bodies, creating a comprehensive platform for dialogue and collaboration. Singh also highlighted the department’s interest in receiving feedback on policy reforms to improve ease of doing business.
A key feature of the summit will be the promotion of alco-tourism. Following the launch of the state’s first winery tour near Malihabad on June 15, brewery tours are now in the pipeline. “We have aligned our excise and tourism policies to support this initiative,” Singh said.
