Worker dies, two injured in accident at sugar mill in Uttarakhand

Rishikesh: A 28-year-old worker died and two others were injured after an accident during a cleaning operation at a sugar mill in Doiwala near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand on Saturday, officials said, Punjab Kesari reported.

The incident occurred at the Doiwala Sugar Mill after the crushing season had ended and the factory had been shut for routine maintenance.

According to officials, workers hired through a contractor were engaged in cleaning and maintenance work inside the mill. During the operation, labourers were scraping out hardened sugar deposits from inside the machinery when the accident occurred.

Three workers were injured in the incident, though the exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed.

Following the mishap, the injured workers were rushed to the Community Health Centre in Doiwala. Due to the seriousness of their condition, doctors later referred them to Himalayan Hospital Jolly Grant for further treatment.

One of the injured workers, Jagmohan (28), a resident of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, died during treatment.

Another worker, Arun (23), suffered serious injuries to his leg and required stitches, while a third worker, Ghanshyam, also from Hardoi, sustained minor injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police and administrative officials reached the mill after receiving information about the incident and have started an investigation. The body of the deceased worker has been sent for post-mortem at Himalayan Hospital.
