18 killed, many trapped after explosion at firecracker factory in Punjab

Punjab: In a recent few days India has witnessed a series of fire incidents, where many people have lost their lives. On Wednesday, 18 people have died and 10 have been injured in the fire that occurred at a firecracker factory at Batala in Punjab. According to the reports, many are feared to be trapped inside the factory.

Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner confirmed that 18 people lost their lives in the incident. “Rescue operations are underway and so far we have recovered 18 dead bodies,” he said.

The incident took place around 4 pm at the factory. Due to the explosions nearby building too got damaged.

The firefighting team are struggling to douse the fire. Punjab Minister for Disaster Management Gurpreet said that it is an unfortunate incident and a thorough probe into the incident will be done. Many ministers have expressed grief over the incident.

On September 3 morning, at least 5 people lost their lives, and many were injured after huge fire broke out at the cold storage unit of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s Uran plant in Navi Mumbai.
