Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: Frustration among farmers is increasing due to the unpaid dues from sugar mills, with outstanding amounts running into crores of rupees. In response, district officials have stepped in, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) has issued a notice to the sugar mill administration, instructing them to clear all pending payments within 15 days.
According to officials, sugar mills in Baheri and Nawabganj owe farmers nearly Rs 200 crore. Notices have now been issued to these mills, warning that if payments are not made within the given timeframe, strict action will follow. This includes the possibility of seizing mill assets and freezing bank accounts, reported Amar Ujala.
Farmers affected by the delay say the pending payments are causing serious difficulties.
Nawabganj SDM Ajay Kumar Upadhyay confirmed that the notice has been sent and the sugar mill has been given a 15-day deadline to settle all farmer dues.
