Sugarcane survey in final phase in Lakhimpur Kheri; over 77% work completed

Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh: The annual sugarcane survey in the district is progressing rapidly, with over 77% of the work already finished. Although the initial deadline for the survey was June 30, the Sugar Department has shortened this period by five days due to the impending monsoon season. The District Cane Officer has instructed all personnel to ensure the survey is fully completed by June 25, reported Amar Ujala.

The sugarcane survey in the district began on May 1, covering 451 designated areas. A total of 640 employees are involved in this extensive exercise, including 130 sugarcane supervisors, 81 cooperative society members, and 429 sugar mill staff.

District Cane Officer Ved Prakash Singh confirmed that 77.47% of the survey work has been completed to date. He reiterated that instructions have been given to all staff to finalize the survey by June 25.

So far, approximately 2.77 lakh hectares have been surveyed. While last year saw sugarcane cultivated across 3.72 lakh hectares, a slight decrease is anticipated this year. Farmers have been urged to be present near their fields during the survey to facilitate the process.

The primary aim of this sugarcane survey is to ensure that farmers receive their cane supply slips on time and to establish a precise sugarcane supply plan for the upcoming crushing season. Lakhimpur district is home to nine sugar mills, and farmers supply sugarcane not only to these local mills but also to mills in neighboring districts.
