Domestic sugar prices were stable

Domestic sugar prices in major markets have been reported to remain stable over the last 2-3 sessions and are currently trading at multi-year lows. The Food Ministry announced on August 28, 2025, that a monthly sugar quota of 23.5 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) has been allocated for September 2025, which is the same as the quota allocated for September 2024.

The total sugar quota for the 2023–24 season (October 2023 to September 2024) was 291.50 LMT, whereas for the 2024–25 season (October 2024 to September 2025), the quota stands at 275.50 LMT.

Currently, the price of M-grade sugar is between ₹3,960 and ₹4,060 per quintal in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, while S-grade sugar is quoted between ₹3,840 and ₹3,880 per quintal in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. These price levels reflect the ongoing stability and multi-year low trading levels in the sugar market.
