Ukraine exports 580,000 tonnes sugar during 2024-25 season

Ukraine exported 580,000 tonnes of sugar during the 2024-25 season, representing 32% of the country’s total sugar production, according to the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine.

This marks a 16% decline compared to the previous marketing year, when sugar exports totaled 692,000 tonnes.

The leading destinations for Ukrainian sugar during the current marketing year included:

European Union – 17%

Turkey – 14%

Libya – 10%

North Macedonia – 8%

Lebanon – 5%

Somalia – 5%

Within the EU, Bulgaria emerged as the top buyer, accounting for 59% of the bloc’s total imports from Ukraine.

Looking ahead, Ukrainian farmers have begun harvesting sugar beets for processing in the upcoming 2025-26 season. The newly reported sown area covers 198,000 hectares, and national sugar production is forecast to reach 1.5 million tonnes.
