Farmers demand hike in MSP, stage protest at district magistrate’s office

Lucknow: Farmers held a demonstration at the District Magistrate’s office on Friday, pressing for the clearance of outstanding sugarcane payments and the announcement of a support price of 450 rupees per quintal, reports Daily Jagran.

The protestors, led by Alok Verma, the district president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, called for several actions. Their key demands included the removal of the smart meter system, the provision of free or subsidized electricity, and the creation of a solid policy to protect crops from stray cattle.

The district president stated, “A farmer does back-breaking work, and yet, he does not get a fair price for his crop. Whatever little hope remains is destroyed by rain and floods. The very farmer who feeds everyone is in distress.”

The demonstration was attended by the union’s General Secretary Ganesh Shankar, along with several other farmers including Sunil Shukla, Sardar Dilaraj Singh, Aashish Yadav, Mohammad Imran, and Mohammad Wasim.
