Rohtak, Haryana: The district unit of the All-India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the management of Bhali Anandpur Sugar Mill, expressing strong dissatisfaction over the mill’s continued closure. The organisation has demanded that the mill be restarted immediately, the sugarcane rate be increased, and other pending issues of farmers be addressed without delay, reports The Tribune.
AIKS secretary Sumit Dalal said a joint delegation of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rohtak, and the AIKS inspected the mill premises and reviewed the situation. The delegation expressed displeasure over the delayed start of operations, which farmers say is causing financial distress.
Dalal said the government had failed to address key concerns of sugarcane farmers. He pointed out that farmers continue to face exploitation during procurement in mandis, fertilisers remain in short supply, and the sugarcane rate was raised by only ₹15 this year—far below the recommendation of the Swaminathan Commission. He added that due to low prices and delays in crushing, farmers suffer losses every year, leading to a decline in the area under sugarcane cultivation.
He warned that farmers would be compelled to launch an agitation if the mill does not begin operations soon.
The delegation included Kisan Sabha district president Preet Singh and BKU representatives Randhir Dhamad, Sunil Malik, Jogendra Banyani, Sajjan Bagdi, Sundar Sahab, Dalbir Baliyana, Teka Dhamad, Balwan Singh, Satbir Singh Dhamad, Kanwal Dhamad, Seva Singh, Ashish Khrawad, and Jaswant Balam.
