Tiruchi: The sugarcane crushing season for 2025–26 began on Thursday at Perambalur Sugar Mills Ltd in Eraiyur, Perambalur district, and at the Arignar Anna Sugar Mills in Kurungulam, Thanjavur district, reports The Hindu.
At Eraiyur, the crushing was inaugurated by Perambalur District Collector N. Mirunalini and MLA M. Prabhakaran. District Revenue Officer G. Kannan, the mill’s Chief Executive R. Paneerselvam, farmers and representatives of local bodies attended the event.
According to an official release, sugarcane cultivated on 5,311 acres across Perambalur, Ariyalur and Kallakurichi districts will be crushed at the Perambalur mill during the season. The mill is expected to produce around 1.50 lakh tonnes of sugar, with an average recovery rate of 9.50%.
At Kurungulam, the Arignar Anna Sugar Mill will process sugarcane supplied from 5,500 acres in Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts. The target production for the season is 1.60 lakh tonnes of sugar. The crushing operations were inaugurated by Gandharvakottai MLA M. Chinnadurai in the presence of the mill’s Chief Executive, S. Raman.
