Maharashtra Sugar mills crush 515.3 lakh tonne cane, produce 447.81 lakh quintal sugar till December 28

Pune: Sugar mills in Maharashtra have crushed 515.3 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 447.82 lakh quintals of sugar up to December 28, 2025, according to data released by the State Sugar Commissionerate. The average sugar recovery in the state stands at 8.69%.

A total of 193 sugar mills have begun operations this season, including 96 cooperative and 97 private mills. During the same period last season, 195 mills—97 cooperative and 98 private—had started crushing operations. At that time, cane crushing stood at 333.2 lakh tonnes and sugar production at 283.16 lakh quintals, with an average recovery of 8.5%.

Kolhapur division leads in sugar recovery

Kolhapur division has emerged as the top performer in the state, recording the highest sugar recovery of 10.23%. The division has crushed 114.3 lakh tonnes of cane and produced 116.91 lakh quintals of sugar. A total of 37 mills, including 25 cooperative and 12 private units, are operating in the division. Pune division follows closely, with 30 mills—17 cooperative and 13 private—currently in operation. The division has crushed 124.8 lakh tonnes of cane and produced 111.41 lakh quintals of sugar, achieving a recovery rate of 8.93%.

Solapur ranks third in cane crushing

Solapur division ranks third in cane crushing, with 43 mills in operation, including 15 cooperative and 28 private units. The division has crushed 107.4 lakh tonnes of cane and produced 83.91 lakh quintals of sugar. Its recovery rate stands at 7.81%. Ahmednagar (Ahilyanagar) division is fourth, with 26 mills—15 cooperative and 11 private—currently operating. These mills have crushed 61.92 lakh tonnes of cane and produced 50.58 lakh quintals of sugar. The division’s recovery rate is 8.17%.

In the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, 22 mills, including 13 cooperative and nine private units, have begun crushing. They have processed 49 lakh tonnes of cane and produced 35.93 lakh quintals of sugar, with a recovery rate of 7.33%.

Nanded processes over 52 lakh tonnes of cane

Nanded division has 29 mills in operation—10 cooperative and 19 private. The division has crushed 52.11 lakh tonnes of cane and produced 44.21 lakh quintals of sugar, recording a recovery rate of 8.48%. In Amravati division, four mills—one cooperative and three private—have started operations. They have crushed 5.55 lakh tonnes of cane and produced 4.76 lakh quintals of sugar, with a recovery rate of 8.58%. Nagpur division has seen the least activity so far, with two private mills operating. The division has crushed 0.16 lakh tonnes of cane and produced 0.11 lakh quintals of sugar. It has also recorded the lowest sugar recovery in the state at 6.88%.
