Sugar mill officers held hostage

Purkaji: Sugarcane farmers in Uttar Pradesh are upset due to pending cane arrears and staging demonstration for the same. Recently, sugarcane farmers demonstrated under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh Sangathan at the Uttam Sugar Mill demanding payment of dues. The agitators held sugar mill officials hostage, who came to talk to the agitating sugarcane farmers.

On October 15, farmers from nearby villages reached the mill and raised slogans demanding payment of cane arrears. Upon getting the agitation information, the sugar mill GM Pushkar Mishra and DGM Syam Ansar paid a visit to the farmers. The cane growers were already angry with the pending arrears, and when the two officers reached there, they were made hostage by the farmers.

Sugarcane farmers allege that the mill administration did not pay the outstanding sugarcane in due time and deceived them. GM assured the agitating farmers in writing that their dues would be settled soon. Following which, they were released.
